Our Mission
The Sultan Tandoori aims to provide the consistently highest quality of service; food and drink to all customers, on every visit time so that they leave our restaurant 100% happy and return to dine with us time after time.

Our History
The Sultan Tandoori is a family owned and run restaurant that was established in 1999 on the site of the former Black Bull Public House. Following on from owning and running both a successful restaurant near Cambridge and take-away in St Ives, the owner and manager Junid established The Sultan Tandoori with the aim of bringing a new Bangladeshi and Indian fine dining experience to the town. He has invested heavily in staffing and the décor to create a special ambiance which is appreciated by his customers.

Located conveniently close to St Ives (the restaurant is just a 2-minute walk from the town centre) the Sultan Tandoori is a very spacious restaurant that offers ample FREE parking. This means that customers collecting take away food can park with ease, directly outside or at the rear of the restaurant, whilst customers eating at the restaurant can park in a safe and convenient location.

The restaurant benefits from a spacious and attractive décor and a quieter location, near enough to but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of St Ives town centre. Our aim is to offer a relaxed formal dining experience where the customer is at the centre of everything we do, both from a service and food quality point of view. Customer service is a top priority along with food quality and we aim to ensure that customers go away happy and want to return.

Our Staff
At The Sultan Tandoori our 12 staff are at the heart of everything we do. We know it may sound simple but we are firm believers in the fact that if we look after our staff well then they, in-turn will look after our customers with the high level of customer care that we pride ourselves on.

The Sultan Tandoori is one of the few Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants to employ female members of staff and we are proud of this fact. We are also proud of the excellent staff retention rate we have that enables our customers to get to know our waiters (and vice versa) and allows us to provide an unrivalled level of consistency of service to all customers on every visit to our restaurant. In addition, our team of chefs have a multitude of experience from around the world, that ensures that they can deliver the quality and consistency of food that is expected from our discerning and loyal customer base.

Our Food
At The Sultan Tandoori we choose only the finest, high-quality ingredients, sourced from around the world when necessary as well as fresh vegetables from local suppliers. We promote a home style of cooking for our dishes from the regions of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and we are one of the only restaurants locally to specialise in fish (including Bangladeshi fish) specialty dishes.

Our Chef
Our Head Chef, Foysal Ali-Ahmed has over 15 years experience in preparing and cooking some of the finest Indian and Bangladeshi food. After joining The Sultan Tandoori in 2004 Foysal set about to build a team that can provide the highest quality and consistency of food to our customers. Working 6-days a week with a team of 5 committed and talented chefs he starts every day with one simple aim – to satisfy his customer’s taste buds and ensure they leave the restaurant keen to return time and time again. Preparation in the kitchen begins early afternoon when Foysal and his team purchase and prepare fresh ingredients in readiness for the busy evening trade. Once the preparation is complete he prepares himself for the influx of customers.

Demand is high at The Sultan Tandoori and Foysal and his team could be creating over 200 meals per night, getting the correct blend and balance of ingredients right each time to ensure the perfect, consistent taste. Each chef has their roles and responsibilities clearly defined to ensure that meals are prepared as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality and hygiene. A local person, Foysal has always enjoyed cooking and after moving to the UK some 15 years ago he decided to make cooking his life and chose it as his career.
